Superb Brazilian Jacarandá and leather ‘Copa’ chair by Jean Gillon for Italma/Wood Art c. 1960s.

31” W x 31” D x 26” H

Jean Gillon was a leading figure in the Brazilian modernist movement and his designs are a true testament to the simplicity and emphasis of material that defines the movement. Gillon’s work has become increasingly collectible and this is a more-than-worthy addition for any discerning individual’s collection.

This example is built in a rich-toned Jacarandá wood with black tufted leather cushions. The cushions are supported by thick belt leather and allow the frame’s construction to speak clearly. The armrests are removable depending on your preference.

As shown in the photos, the condition of the leather is not great. The foam is in great shape and has a good amount of life left. Reupholstery service is available; these chairs are stunning when reupholstered so it’s certainly worth the expense. The frame is in good condition with minimal age-appropriate wear, although no glaring cosmetic issues.  No structural issues and all joints are tight & strapping is still strong.
