Brazilian ‘Tijuca’ sofa in Jacarandá and wool tweed, designed by Jean Gillon for his company Italma/Wood Art in the late 1960s.
Supremely comfortable and
effortlessly beautiful; this is one of Jean Gillon’s best. Although, that is hard to say for certain since his design catalog is so incredible. This Brazilian masterpiece was designed in 1969 for Gillon’s company Italma, later renamed Woodart. The frame is crafted of solid Jacarandá-da-Bahia (Brazilian Rosewood) and the wool-upholstered cushion is supported by a hand tied, traditional Brazilian fishing net. Each end of the netting is held in place with a simple Jacarandá dowel, adding a pleasant visual interruption to the long wood stretchers.
Great vintage condition, shows amazing patina and minimal wear to upholstery. No structural issues with the frame or upholstery support.
