Super cool dining table consisting of a teak top, a chrome steel tubular steel base and a solid Wenge mosaic inlay. This is an amalgam of vintage components that have been repurposed into a “new” piece of furniture.
50” L x 30” W x 28.5” H
This was the result of something I always wanted to try: using solid wood to replace areas where veneer was missing or sanded through.
I found the top from a thrift store table with several spots of swelling in the substrate. Don’t freak out, it wasn’t a special table by any means, just a somewhat generic teak table. It was also missing the leaves and the top was re-attached to the original frame with a million nails… I mulled over sanding it down, re-veneering or painting wood grain back in; eventually concluding that this would be a great platform for this inlay experiment.
In hindsight, I’d absolutely do a few things differently the next time I do an inlay. It’s not perfect although it was great fun and does look pretty sweet!
Overall condition is great. The top was refinished in an oil based wiping varnish but as it consists of vintage materials; some minor aging still presents. No structural issues, the chrome steel frame is tight and has brand new leveling glides installed.
