Superlative vintage ‘Sultana’ chair, designed by the legendary George Mulhauser, for Plycraft in the 1960s.
This is easily one of Mulhauser’s most spirited forms, with spiraled bent plywood composing the entirety of the arm & back rests, and Mulhauser’s iconic curved base trim. Very unique in the world of Mid-century modernism with its extravagant shape, although the overall design is still quite simple; falling right in line with the ethos of the era.
Overall condition is good to fair, with plenty of stories wear and some chipping at the ends of the base trim. There are no structural issues with the chair, although it is on the delicate side by nature of the design.
