Featuring custom NOS vintage crushed velvet upholstery by Dale Rath.
The velvet was sourced from a vintage table cloth, circa 1960s to early 70s. The original plan for these was to cover both sides in velvet in the traditional manner of upholstery for this chair. After doing the fronts, we quickly realized we didn’t have enough yardage and had to adapt. We then thought: how about chocolate covered velvet oranges? A panel of brown velvet would have covered the back easily. But since these are not authentic versions of the chair, we wanted to get weirder, and that wasn’t weird enough… With a few months of ideation, the concept of ‘zested’ orange slices hit me. After sourcing some textural fabrics to represent the albedo & pith, we were able to use the remaining velvet scraps to complete this vision. Dale really came through on this one & the results far exceeded what we were both expecting.
Excellent condition all around and plenty of comfort! There are no structural issues with the frames or shells.
